Cake and pie? Oh my!

« on: December 20, 2009, 04:02:59 pm »

Hey Guys,

I was wondering if someone could suggest a good hunter application for doing the following:

(1) I want notification of when my sting is almost done so I can cast "Chimera Shot."

(2) I want notification of when my mana is almost gone or full so I can use/switch from "Aspect of the Viper."

I remember Teco was telling me about a program he was using but I forgot the name.

Hope everyone is enjoying the holidays! Smiley

I don't get to play Unagi as often as I like... but my understanding is that Chimera Shot is your priority shot EVERY time it's up, regardless of when your sting is about to expire.  I think Kill Shot is the exception, but that's based on the mob's health.  Chimera Shot is a key part of the MM rotation.  If you use it every time its up, you won't ever have to worry about your sting dropping.  Now, I haven't read up on MM since 3.3, not sure if I've read up on it since 3.2 even... so I may be uninformed of the latest.

As far as addons go, you may find Watcher useful.  I believe it was originally created for hunter rotations in WotLK, once shot clipping was no longer a concern from BC.  I've played with it a little but found I'd rather try to master the WotLK MM rotation without an addon.  Probably explains my low DPS output.   Wink

Looking at it now on curse gaming, it appears they've broadened the addon to be more useful for DPS classes beyond hunter.

I am survival so I don't have one for chimera.  I tried Watcher and Kharthus's Hunter Timers (currently out of date for 3.3) but I found that I preferred to do my rotations myself.  That way I can make adjustments on the fly and not fall asleep during long fights. Smiley

I use Viper Notify for aspect but the author hasn't updated it yet.  It has a loud and quite annoying alarm so you don't stay in viper too long.  Without it, I tend to forget until I see my Recount numbers plummet so I hope he releases it soon.

SimpleMD is nice.  It lets your group know to whom you have misdirected and shows you a cooldown for MD.

You can also use Ghost Pulse, which will tell you when your CDs are up.  Or PowerAuras, which takes some set up, but you can have it set to either tell you when Chimera is up, or have a timer for your stings, or both.  Probably even get the timer to flash at some point, not sure.  MSBT, Mik's Scrolling Battle Text, also has a CD announce.

I used to use MSBT with a custom warning to tell m when I was at 80%+ mana to turn off Viper if it was on, and to turn it on if below 20% mana and it was not on. I think I halped Vaage build one too so he can prolly show you how.
